Networking event “Past, Present and Future” and “Together in the Future” of MU-Sofia and MU-Plovdiv was attended by many students and future applicants

On 22th August 2015 at the Bulgarian embassy in London was held the First Annual Meeting of Future Candidates, Undergraduates and Alumni of the Medical University – Sofia and Medical University – Plovdiv. Besides them, the event was attended by representatives of the Universities, officials and Bulgarian journalists.

Following an old Bulgarian custom, the visitors were welcomed with bread and salt by the organizer of the event, Inter HECS.

Before the start of the official part, Acad. Prof. Dr. Vanyo Mitev, MD, PhD, DSc, rector of the Medical University of Sofia, Prof. Dr. Andon Filtchev, dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the Medical University Sofia-, Prof. Maria Kukleva, Vice-Rector of Educational Activity at the Medical University-Plovdiv and Dr. Ivanova discussed with representatives of the Embassy the opportunities for promoting the Bulgarian education in the UK. As a gesture of gratitude for the help, Medical University-Sofia and Medical University-Plovdiv handed engraved plaques to the diplomats.

The official opening of the event began with a speech by Dr. Tsikandelov, Expert Foreign Students at Inter HECS.

Acad. Prof. Dr. Vanyo Mitev and Prof. Kukleva also welcomed the guests and awarded for excellence current and former students of MU Sofia. In return, the young medics gave speeches so that they could express their deep gratitude.

In front of the camera of UNI TV, Acad. Prof. Dr. Vanyo Mitev pointed out the advantages of Medical University of Sofia: “The quality is very high and the price is pretty low. Here, in England, the tuition fee for a Degree in Medicine is around 25,000 pounds and in the US it starts from 60 000 dollars. In Bulgaria, the tuition fee is 8,000 euro and the students are very well prepared. Our foreign and Bulgarian graduates succeed at the most elite schools.”

In addition, Prof. Kukleva mentioned some of the benefits of studying at Plovdiv Medical University: “The conditions at the Faculty of Dental Medicine are excellent, and we have provided many material resources. There have been many improvements, we have purchased new equipment… At the Faculty of Pharmacy we have unique laboratories. A simulation center was built at the Medical Faculty, where the students have the opportunity to improve their practical training by utilizing high-class models.”

Some of the students also gave their opinion on the medical education in Bulgaria and the assistance provided by Inter HECS.

The good mood at the event was established by the folklore ensemble “PENDARA ethno project” and the meeting ended with an official cocktail.
