Top tips to survive Bulgarian summer
Summer in Bulgaria officially starts on 21st June, but … we think it has already started “unofficially” – the temperature reaches up to 30°C and the sun is always shining! If you have recently moved to Bulgaria or if you are planning to move to Bulgaria, get prepared! We also give you 10 tips on how to survive Bulgarian summer weather:
1. Drink plenty of water
Drinking 2 l per day is the minimum amount of water you should drink. Make sure you bring a bottle of water when you go outside so that you are always on the safe side!
2. Avoid going out at noon
The temperatures reach a peak around noon, so we definitely recommend staying indoors between 11 AM and 3 PM.
3. Go to the seaside or to the mountains
Bulgaria has a lovely seaside and the Bulgarian mountain views will take your breath away! So check for a cool destination close to the city you live in and escape the heat!
4. Always check the weather forecast
Summer thunderstorms can be quite fun, but you should know when to expect them (so that you bring an umbrella or stay at home) – so make sure you check the weather forecast every day.
5. Take advantage of swimming pools and water parks
There are plenty of swimming pools in each Bulgarian city but also water parks at the sea side are very fun! They are also the perfect solution if you love water, can’t handle heat and want to hang out with friends!
6. Wear outfits with bright colours
Dark colours absorb more heat so you will have hard time wearing black during the summer.
7. Bring a fan
If you really have hard time experiencing Bulgarian summer, we advise you to bring a fan or a pocket portable air conditioner – you will feel much better!
8. Do sports early in the morning or late in the evening
If you are into sports, we advise you to practice your hobby early in the morning (before 9 AM) or late in the evening (after 8 PM) – the weather around this time is really lovely!
9. Eat fruits and salads
Watermelon, melons, kiwis or salads will definitely make you feel better during the warm weather (and they are also good for your health!).
10. Don’t forget sunscreen
Sun protection is very important for your health and skin, so don’t forget to put sunscreen on every time you go out.
We hope you find these tips very useful… and enjoy your stay in Bulgaria!
