On May 26, 2024, in the Auditorium of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, a celebration was held on the occasion of Africa Day (May 25). Among the official guests were representatives of the company “Study in Bulgaria”, which was also the only educational consultant company invited to the event.

The meeting was organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Bulgaria together with the ambassadors and heads of missions of several African countries in partnership with the Department of African and Indo-Pacific Studies.

Africa Day celebrates the successes of the African Union and and its role in uniting African nations. It commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity on May 1963. The event at Sofia University included a cultural program of African music, dance, traditional food, a photo exhibition showing African landmarks, handmade accessories and a film screening.

Every year, the African Union chooses a specific theme of importance to the continent to mark Africa Day and find solutions to current problems. In 2024, the main theme is education under the title: “Educating a 21st century Africa: building sustainable education systems for better access to inclusive, quality and relevant lifelong learning in Africa”. At the meeting, the possibilities for education of African citizens in Bulgarian educational institutions were discussed.

During her speech, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Maria Angelieva mentioned the opening of an information center in the city of Rabat in the Kingdom of Morocco by the company “Study in Bulgaria” as a contribution to the deepening of cultural relations between the two countries and a perspective for educational exchange.
