An average day of a Veterinary Medicine student in Bulgaria

There are two types of university lessons – lectures and seminars. Seminars are separate for each “university group” – they are set upon university enrolment and consist of about 10 – 12 people each. Seminars are compulsory to attend and this is when students gain a lot of practical experience. In comparison, lectures are for all students in the respective year and are usually in a format of a presentation held by a university professor.

During the first few years at the university, students focus on theoretical subjects. Later on, the curriculum includes internships at farms. Everything is taught in English. The only exception is the basic Bulgarian language course which helps students to learn a new language and to communicate with locals.

Usually, lessons take place Monday to Friday, so students have time over the weekend to catch up with their friends or prepare for any upcoming exams. Both, Stara Zagora and Sofia, offer many leisure activities. There are many parks, sports facilities, restaurants and study cafés where you can go.

Last but not least, Trakia University and University of Forestry welcome many foreign students every year. They organize events so that freshers quickly find friends and get to know upper-year students. We have made many useful videos about life in Sofia and Stara Zagora – make sure to watch them!
