Starting university is an exciting milestone, especially when it means moving to a new country! To help freshers feel welcome and ready for the journey ahead, Inter HECS organised an orientation week for students joining the English-taught Medicine and Dentistry programmes at Medical University – Sofia!

From arrival support and enrolment assistance to campus tours and opportunities to make friends, the week brought together practical help and a warm introduction to university life.

For many students, the journey began with an airport pick-up arranged by Inter HECS. The team also organised hotel stays, helping students settle in before taking their first steps at university. With support available from the outset, students and their families could focus on getting to know Sofia and preparing for this new chapter.

A dedicated hall at the university was specially booked for enrolment, giving freshers a clear place to meet the Inter HECS team and receive help with the process. Campus tours with upper-year students gave freshers the chance to explore their university, ask questions and hear directly from people who had already experienced those first weeks.

Beyond university paperwork, the team helped students with the essentials of everyday life: obtaining a public transport card, getting a local SIM card and setting up Wi-Fi. These practical steps helped new arrivals feel more connected and ready to navigate their new home. Inter HECS also organised city tours for students and parents. Exploring Sofia together offered a welcoming introduction to the city while giving families a better feel for the place students would soon call home.

Orientation week was also an opportunity to discover the social side of university. Freshers met student societies they could join, explored ways to get involved and began building connections beyond the classroom. Gifts from the Inter HECS team added a personal touch to the welcome, rounding off a week focused on helping students feel supported and included.
