About the university

  • Back in 1992, Varna Universiy of Management was founded as Bulgarian-Dutch Institute of Management.
  • Varna Universiy of Management is the first Bulgarian university to receive Accreditation by the British Accreditation Council.
  • Varna University of Management is a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
  • Varna University of Management has established partnerships with more than 200 universities in Europe and outside Europe – this means that students can take advantage of student exchange programs, research projects, paid internships as well as double degree opportunities. For instance, VUM offers a double degree program together with Cardiff Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.
  • Varna University of Management offers different study programs in English (both Bachelor and Master’s degree), incl. 
  • Furthermore, the career center of Varna University of Management helps students find internship and / or a job in the field of their studies both during and their studies.

Study programs & Tuition fees

Here are some of the study programs in English offered by Varna University of Management:

  • Bachelor degree: International Business Management, Software Systems and Technologies, International Hospitality Management, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Culinary Arts. The semester usually starts in September and the duration of the course is about 4 years. 
  • Master degree: MBA, International Hospitality and Tourism Management. The semester usually starts in September and the duration of the course is about 2 years.

The tuition fees are about 4000 EUR per year.

Application & Entry requirements

In order to apply for admission to any university in Bulgaria, you have to submit a set of documents that include various important documents such as a high school diploma, a copy of passport and more. Some of the documents need to be officially translated and legalized. Every year there are also deadlines set by the universities for submission of the documents to make sure the candidates have enough time to prepare for all travel matters and the start of the semester.

Student life & Living costs

Varna University of Management is located in the city of Varna – ‘The Sea Capital of Bulgaria”. Here are some interesting and useful facts about life in Varna:

  • Varna Airport is located about 10 km away from the city center of Varna. Many airlines offer direct flights to it, incl. WizzAir, Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines and more.
  • Varna is a very famous city at the Bulgarian seaside – not only for locals, but also for foreigners looking for a lovely, fun and affordable summer destination. Indeed, in summer you will find many festivals happening all around the city.
  • Right next to the seaside of Varna you will also find the main pedestrian street and the Seaside park – great places to enjoy your free time in Varna. Of course, there are also many beaches as well as local and international restaurants to make sure you fully enjoy your time abroad as a student! Also, there are many museums such as the Museum of Archaeology and the Retro Museum as well as many other famous tourist destinations near the city, e.g. Tyulenovo, Balchik, etc. 
  • Going out is not too pricey too – street food is very common (e.g. you can grab a quick meal for about 2 EUR) or have a delicious dinner at a restaurant for about 10 EUR. In terms of rent, you can expect to pay about 300 to 400 EUR per month (bills are not included), depending on the location of the apartment as well as its size, furniture, etc. 

Student accommodation

Students who choose to study abroad in Varna have two main options:

  • The university dormitory. Rent is about 70 to 160 EUR depending on the type of room you choose (e.g single, double, triple). Keep in mind that the rooms are subject to availability and you can apply for a place only after your place at the university is officially confirmed.
  • Renting an apartment in the city of Varna. As mentioned above, in this case, the rent may vary (e.g. 300 to 400 EUR) depending on the location and the size / furniture of the apartment. For instance, you can go for a private apartment or choose a two-bedroom apartment and share rent with another person in Varna, e.g. another student at Varna University of Management. Keep in mind that bills are usually not included in the rent.
