Attention, future students at Sofia Medical University! The team of Inter HECS – Study in Bulgaria would like to share with you important information about the entrance exam and admission to one of the leading medical universities in 2023.

• What subjects are included in the entrance exam? What is the format of the exam?

Applicants will have to sit an entrance exam in Biology, Chemistry and English. It will be conducted online.

• When are the entrance exam dates in 2023?

For EU and EEA applicants: 20th September 2023.

For non-EU and EEA countries and the Swiss Confederation (third countries): 6th October 2023.

• How are the exam sections graded and can you retake the exam? What happens if you fail the entrance exam?

The Bulgarian grading scale goes from 2 (fail) to 6 (excellent). Applicants must pass all three exam sections in order to be included in the ranking list. The maximum score is 30.00, as the high school grades in Biology and Chemistry, as well as all three exam subjects, are taken into account. A retake is not possible – applicants who fail the exam can apply to study preparatory year at Sofia Medical University. 

• When do the entrance exam results come out?

For EU and EEA applicants: The entrance exam results will be announced on 25th September 2023 and applicants will find out the admission results (whether or not they have a study place at Sofia Medical University) a day after – on 26th September. 

For non-EU and EEA countries and the Swiss Confederation (third countries): The entrance exam results will be announced on 9th October 2023 and applicants will find out the admission results (whether or not they have a study place at Sofia Medical University) a day after – on 10th October. 

• I was accepted to study at Sofia Medical University. What’s next?

People who got a study place at Sofia Medical University must enrol by 20th October 2023. The academic year for Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy in English starts on 23rd October 2023.

• How and when to apply for admission?

Keep in mind that all application documents must be prepared according to the university’s requirements and submitted before the respective deadline.
